Many people find chest strap cardiac rate recording devices uncomfortable. They can be too tight and rub and scratch your chest, or too loose and fall down all the time resulting in inaccurate heart rate readings. Also many women with large chests find the strap especially cumbersome. There are sports bras out there where you can insert a monitor that are supposed to help with this but often there are problems with accuracy and comfort on these as well.

The electrodes on a chest strap monitor must stay in contact with your skin the entire time to work. So if you don’t have a secure fit then you might as well not even be using a chest strap device. If you find yourself in this situation then a good alternative is a strapless cardio speed recording device.

How Does a Pulse Beat Recording Device With No Chest Component Work?

A sports watch with a heart beat recorder looks like most typical sports watches. Unlike chest strap monitors which measure your heart rate from sensors placed on your chest, the strapless watch measures your pulse rate by impulses in your fingers or your wrist. There are currently two types strapless monitors on the market. One takes an accurate and on-demand heart rate reading any time you want just by placing your fingers on the sensor. The other will constantly record your cardio rate by taking a measure through your wrist or forearm without a need to place your fingers on the wrist watch.

Avoid cheaper models that detect the pulse rate by blood flow rather than by calibrated measurements. The most accurate readings are achieved by monitors that measure heart rate through an electrical circuit between your two fingers or your wrist. These watches are able to measure the contraction of the heart as accurately as an ECG, or electrocardiogram, by monitoring the electrical activity of the heart and reading it in the fingertips or forearm.

Benefits of a Strapless Device

There are many benefits to utilizing a strapless heart rate monitor. You can make your workout more effective by knowing when your heart rate is in your target range and how long it stays there. And you won’t have to worry about wearing an uncomfortable or bulky chest strap.

This sports watch is the ultimate accessory for individuals that are fitness enthusiasts and want the latest technology to help them become a better athlete. You can monitor your pulse rate at any time without bulky and cumbersome chest wires. Being able to monitor your cardiac rate is essential when trying to manage your weight, improve your body and achieve all your fitness goals.

With a strapless cardiac rhythm gauge you can monitor your heart rate with a simple touch of a button without missing a step or stopping. Your pulse rate is a good indicator of the intensity level of your workout. As it is strapless, there are no chest wires to hook up and unhook every time you want to monitor your heart rate.

This watch can also be used on a daily basis for those who have heart conditions. They can check their resting cardio rate at any time as well as how their heart responds to different situations. This watch offers reassurance to cardiac patients or anyone else who may need all-day monitoring.

A monitor without straps can also be used as an excellent biofeedback tool for those that have stress or anxiety disorders. An individual may experience a racing heart while under stress; this watch allows them to understand when it is happening. Along with deep breathing techniques and calming methods, they can monitor their heart rate and see the progress they are making with their own eyes. They can watch and see how they respond to stressful situations and learning how to control that response allows them to feel more calm and focused.

Measuring your heart rate as opposed to a pulse rate is much more accurate. Heart rate monitors have to undergo testing or accuracy, pulse monitors do not. You have the assurance of an accuracy-tested time piece.

Disadvantages of a Strapless Cardiovascular Rhythm Checker

The main disadvantage of some, not all, strapless monitors is that they won’t record your heart rate during the entire time you are working out. You have to put your fingers on the watch and wait 3-5 seconds to get a reading. So the data points for your pulse rate will only be during the times that you touch and record them. The Mio Breeze model is one like this. Now this is fine for many people. I personally like to have my heart rate recorded the entire time I workout and not have to periodically touch my watch.

Now there are other models like the ePulse2 Strapless Monitor & Calorie Counterthat don’t require you to touch the watch. It will record your cardio rate directly from your wrist or forearm. I haven’t tried this one yet, but from owner reviews this looks like a great model. A couple of owners have tested it against their old chest strap monitors and found it to be just as accurate, matching in sync almost exactly to the heart rate recorded on the chest strap monitors.

If you don’t like wearing a chest strap, then a strapless monitor is the only way to go.

Choosing A Good Strapless Monitor

There are hundreds of different styles, types and features available. It can be a real challenge to wade through all the features and decide which one is best for you.

First, decide how you are going to use it the most. Sit down and think about why you want this type of watch. If you want it for fitness goals, think of your goals and what your goals would be in one year’s time. A strapless cardiac pace recording device with memory, comparative heart rates, minimum pulse rate, maximum cardiac rate and a target heart pace may be best for you. If you want it for simple daily cardiac monitoring, you only need a more simple style without all the additional features.

What to Look For When Buying

What to look for when buying a cardio velocity recording device without a strap ultimately depends on you and what you are looking for in a device. You need to decide if you want continual or on demand monitoring, if you want a maximum, minimum and target heart rate level system, if you want a calorie counter and calorie burning counter. There are hundreds of available features with these sports watches. Decide on your budget, and then look for watches that fall within those parameters. There is no sense in falling in love with a watch only to find out it is way above your price range. Make sure the watch has been tested for accuracy and has all the features you desire.
